I was once in a world, I
Was one of the many. I
Embraced all the words that I
Knew how to carry. I
Tried, as I lay by the
Side of the road, to take
Flight like the flies without
Fear I might fall.
I was once in a world,
In a place I
Took part in. A space I
Could trace all the faces and
Glances of wondering folks. I
Could talk in a language that I
Knew how to speak without
Fear I might choke.
I was once in a world,
I set sail on a boat, and I
Floated and gazed at the
Wobbling stream. I
Could dream of a world where I
Could swim and reach
All the beaches without
Fear I might drown.
I was once in a world,
And I knew how to count
All my moments of hope,
All my moments of doubt.
And I landed on the bed with
My shoes still on my feet, I can-
not be submitted. I was once.
I was once
In a world.
